Previous Retirement Journey Updates
❄️🕎🎄SEASONS’ GREETINGS 🎄🕎❄️ wonderful readers!!! All 121 of you:-) I started off the year with 53 subscribers, and you more than doubled in your gathering here.
Thank you for investing your presence, time, and energy all year long, reading, liking, commenting, and sharing Letters from Nneka. I TRULY appreciate you ❣️
November was a blur and December is going by even faster!
When I’m writing these updates, the month I’m updating you on seems so far away. I’m going to change that in the new year to share these on the 2nd Sunday of the next month. That’s enough time to pull the numbers together, but not so much time that I hardly remember what happened.
For my new folks, every month I share an update on my retirement goal.
Retirement Goal
I deeply desire to be a woman of pleasure by October 2, 2030. A woman of pleasure is a woman who has financial peace of mind, time freedom, and whose primary purpose is pleasure.
I want to retire well. Meaning, I want to be healthy - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, AND financially.
Now, let’s check out my progress…
Physical Health
2024 Goal: Run a 5K straight
My commitment: Move my body for at least 25 minutes a day (or 5000 steps), 20 days a month
Update
Much better:-) I’m proud of myself for turning November around. I hope to do the same in December.
Even though I’m struggling with my movement days, my overall health is MUCH better now than it was at the start of the year. My A1C is down 2.2 points. I’m down 15lbs. My liver’s doing better. Overall, I feel lighter and more alert.
I got all my basic check ups this year. Next year, I’m taking the next step for my teeth and those persons of a certain age extra checks.
I’m not running a 5K this year, and it’s not my goal for next year. I’m thinking of doing a daily yoga challenge next year. We shall see.
Social Health
2024 Goal: Establish my brunch circle - my group of 5-7 local casual friends.
My commitment: Attend one new meetup a month
Update
I did sorta kinda do a meetup in November 🤷🏽 I met the Black Girls Run group here in Charlotte at the end of a run. Does that count?
I’m counting it!
I met strangers. In person. For the first time.
It counts.
Let me tell you, making friends is scarier than it sounds, but I’m getting out there by and by. Wait ‘til you hear what I did in December.
I made a couple friends in the virtual YouTube challenge I did at the end of October, and I’ve stayed in touch. I’m confident I’ll meet these ladies in person in this lifetime:-)
Financial Independence
2024 Goal: Eliminate credit card debt so that I can invest that money.
My commitment: Contribute to 401K up to the match so that I automatically double my contribution.
Update
What’s in the update?
Debt-Free Countdown: How accountability helped me crush $1,500 and hit zero by year-end.
Smart Trading Moves: Why I paused during volatility and stayed disciplined.
Income Boost Plan: My strategy to double non-W2 income every year for 5 years.
