Previous Retirement Journey Updates
We had the first snow of the season back in December. It’s ironic because the meteorologists were predicting snowmageddon this weekend, but there was more snow back on December 3rd than there was this weekend.
Such is life🤷🏽
December proved to be a strong close for 2024. It set me up for a strong start for 2025.
Thank you to all of you who take the time to read Letters from Nneka. I appreciate your presence, your energy - every view, every like, every comment. I hold you DEAR. Thank you❣️
For my new folks, every month, on the second Sunday,I share an update on my retirement goal.
Retirement Goal
I deeply desire to be a woman of pleasure by October 2, 2030. A woman of pleasure is a woman who has financial peace of mind, time freedom, and whose primary purpose is pleasure.
I want to retire well. Meaning, I want to be healthy - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, AND financially.
Now, let’s check out my progress…
Physical Health
2024 Goal: Run a 5K straight
My commitment: Move my body for at least 25 minutes a day (or 5000 steps), 20 days a month
Update
Progress, not perfection! I’m super proud of myself for closing the year with 18 movement days in the month.
After I went hard in May, I declined until reaching an all time low in October. Far from where I wanted to be.
I’m proud of myself for getting back on track. I was able to get back on track, not with grit and determination, but with grace and kindness.
I will practice more kindness with myself throughout 2025.
Social Health
2024 Goal: Establish my brunch circle - my group of 5-7 local casual friends.
My commitment: Attend one new meetup a month
Update
I attended my first in person Exodus Summit in Charlotte in December. I’m pretty pleased with myself about it.
Through Exodus Summit, I’m connected to 3 affinity groups - one local in Charlotte, and 2 others remotely (move abroad accountability and YouTube accountability).
While I did not establish my brunch circle in 2025, I’m happy with where I am socially.
My social goal for 2025 will change because I know now I’m not retiring in Charlotte. Plus, I’m still finding my way with what social health looks like for me.
Stay tuned:-)
Financial Independence
2024 Goal: Eliminate credit card debt so that I can invest that money.
My commitment: Contribute to 401K up to the match so that I automatically double my contribution.
Update
What’s in the update?
Debt Free Victory! Credit card debt is officially GONE!!!
Asset Growth: Tripled my assets in 2024!
Passive-ish Income: I can now pay for dining out AND monthly subscriptions
